Since it’s inception in 2016 OnlyFans has grown to see over 1.5 million creators and 170 million subscribers around the globe. The site claims to have paid more than $2 billion, yes that’s billion with a “b” to its creators so far. Many of the top creators make well over $100,000 per month. So has this new phenomenon ruined women in todays modern society?
While it’s certainly true that women in todays society tend to feel more entitled and have a false perception of their value to men, OnlyFans isn’t the main culprit. The average OnlyFans account only has 21 subscribers and makes on average only $151 per month. It’s only a small percentage that hit the aforementioned numbers. In fact, 33% of the revenue is earned by 1% of OnlyFans content creators.
I’ve heard many men make the statement that “OnlyFans is ruining women” or “OnlyFans is ruining dating” and complaining about the platform, but the fact of the matter is without people willing to sign up for these subscriptions these women wouldn’t feel so entitled.
It’s basic economics. Supply and demand. If there was zero demand for the content being provided then women wouldn’t be flocking to sign up and create their own content on the platform.
The bigger question at this point is why are all these men willing to pay for these types of sites?
Recent studies show that men are more lonely today than ever before in history. In that study 44% of men said they felt lonely all of the time. 32% said they didn’t even have a best friend or someone they felt they could talk to. Loneliness can lead to man different social and mental problems. A clinical psychologist associated with the study, Dr. Carla Marie Manly, stated that those who are lonely “suffer from higher rates of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, and suicidality.”
There are many different factors that play into male loneliness which we’ll cover in a different post but it’s one of the main reasons they are turning to sites like OnlyFans for attention. They feel like even paying for the attention is better than simply being lonely. If it wasn’t for the psychological effects of being lonely, men would turn to free pornography on the web. With OnlyFans the viewer is acknowledged. They can make the viewer feel like they are speaking directly to them and creating a false feeling on intimacy. They’ll even trade messages with you – and the more you pay, the more she’ll facilitate that illusion of actual interest and desire.
OnlyFans only exists due to the demand of female attention that men desire. And while there are many things that contribute to male loneliness, including many factors that result from feminism and women’s skewed perceptions of their value, OnlyFans shouldn’t be blamed for ruining women in todays society.
